Hotel Mestari Overview

You know what, Hotel Mestari is one of those places that just gets it right without trying too hard. I’ve stayed here twice now, and honestly, it’s become my go-to spot when I’m in town. This 4-star gem sits right in the heart of things, and I mean that literally – you can walk to pretty much anywhere you’d want to go from here.

The first thing that struck me was how the lobby actually feels lived-in rather than like some sterile showroom. The staff genuinely remembers your name (not just because they’re reading it off a screen), and check-in is refreshingly quick. My room was on the third floor facing the courtyard, which turned out to be perfect because you get all the natural light without the street noise – though honestly, even the street-side rooms aren’t too bad since the windows are pretty solid. The beds are proper comfortable, not just hotel-firm, and there’s this little reading nook by the window that I ended up using way more than I expected. The only minor thing is that the bathroom lighting is a bit harsh in the mornings, but that’s me being picky.

What really won me over was the attention to local details. The hotel restaurant downstairs serves this incredible local fish dish that changes based on what’s fresh (the staff actually knows what the catch was that day), and their breakfast spread includes these amazing local pastries that you won’t find at the chain hotels. Parking is available in their small lot behind the building – it fills up quickly during summer months, but there’s street parking nearby if you don’t mind a two-minute walk. The whole place has this relaxed energy where business travelers and tourists somehow coexist without that weird corporate hotel tension. I’d definitely recommend asking for a room on the courtyard side if you’re a light sleeper, and try to snag a dinner reservation if you’re staying during the weekend – locals actually eat there, which tells you something. With an 8.9 rating, it’s clear I’m not the only one who’s figured out this place is something special.
